Tang Soo Do Korean Martial Arts

The Chicopee Parks & Recreation Department is offering classes in Tang Soo Do a Korean Martial Arts. Come learn with Master Jeffrey Bulissa, a 4th Degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do and learn about Self-defense, confidence and physical fitness. Children, family members and Parents can train together. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesday evenings, Each session will consist of 8 classes.
Little Dragons (ages 5 to 7): 6 – 6:30 PM,
Youth (ages 8 to 15): 6:30 – 7:30 PM.
Youth & Adults (ages 8 to Adult): 7:30 - 8:30 PM.
All classes are held at Chicopee Parks & Recreation Dept.. Pre-registration for program at the Chicopee Parks Department.

Learning Through Play Playgroup
October 2 - (Follows School Calendar)
Join us for this new drop-in playgroup in Chicopee for parents/caregivers and children from birth - 5 yrs. old. Each week will focus on an area of development and provide fun activities for children and ideas for adults on how to help children learn though play. Areas of development to be explored include: early literacy, motor development, science, beginning math and engineering. School is out for winter vacation so join us for a four days of fun with ART-ventures for kids (formerly Let's Gogh Art).
Tuesday 4/17, Totally Terrific Tie Dye Tees
Explore abstract tinfoil art, discover a unique tie dying technique to create color explosion T-shirts and watercolor seascapes like Winslow Homer, with origami boats afloat.
Wednesday 4/18, Metallic Clay & Magnificent Matisse
Sculpt with clay and transform bottles into metallic vessels (inspired by ancient metal art), create gorgeous paintings and glittering paper snowflakes inspired by Twitchell and canvas art inspired by Henri Matisse.
Thursday, 4/19, Peace Sign Party with Vincent Van Gogh
With tons of decorations to choose from, have a blast designing giant (12") paper mache peace signs! Create collages inspired by Vincent Van Gogh and make leather graffiti wristbands
Friday, 4/20 Art-ventures with Mr. Picasso Head
With Picasso's asymmetrical potraits in mind, create wacky mix-and-match faces out of colorful clay. Plus, decoupage bright tissue paper vases and design cool Native American wristbands.

January 7 - March 25 2018 (No Open Swim on 3/11)
The Parks Dept will hold open swim at Chicopee High School on Sundays from 12:30-2:30 PM. from January 7 - March 25, 2018. The cost is $3/Residents positive ID is Required. All children 18 & under must be accompanied by an adult. Children who have not been toilet trained must have a swim diaper.
Lifeguard Training ClassSaturday's March 24, 31 & April 7
The Parks Department is holding an American Red Cross lifeguard certification course at Chicopee High School Pool. The classes will run on Saturdays March 24, 31 & April 7 from 10 am. - 4 pm. Participants must attend all 3 classes. The cost is $295/person. This course will include certification in Lifeguard training, CPR/AED (Automated External Defibrillator) and Community First Aid. Participants must be 16 years old on or before the end of the course.
All participants must take a pre-skills test on the first day of the class to be officially enrolled in the course.
Captivating Cartoons Classes
April 17 - April 20
9:00-12:00 at Chicopee Parks Department
For ages 8-14
Join professional freelance artist Michael Cady back where students will challenge their creativity while having fun creating cartoons!
Learn techniques and tips for creating cool cartoons and cartoon characters ad how to best incorporate words into your work. The focus of this session will be on the individual's style as well as basic drawing skills such as shading, perspective and proportions.
If you have never drawn cartoons before, this is the place to learn- if you're already drawing cartoons then we can take your art to the next level. It's all about having fun and creating some really cool cartoons.
Sketch books and pencils and pens included. Feel free to bring a snack.

CPR/AED, First Aid & Bloodborne Pathogens

The Parks Dept is offering a certification class in CPR/AED, First Aid & Bloodborne Pathogens Thursday April 19 from 1 to 5 Pm. at the Parks Office.
The cost is $80/Residents & $85/Non-residents. These are basic certifications & do not apply for daycare providers, lifeguards and nurses. Class space is limited and pre-registration is Mandatory at the Parks office. For additional questions call Parks office 594-3481.
